Not so long ago, the only place to find consoles filled with old games was at a Walgreens where you could get an Atari Flashback for $40. If you were really unlucky, your granny snagged you a Retro-Bit Generations. Whatever the case, after about two hours, you’d remember that Atari games from 1982 kinda stink and move on.
But today, the retro console is all the rage. Sega and Nintendo jumped in early, putting out small versions of their classic consoles packed with some honestly great games. The C64 Mini just came out this month, and the PlayStation Classic is hitting shelves in December.
Not wanting to be left out, Intellivision has jumped on the nostalgia train by announcing the Amico. But, in true Intellivision form, they aren’t doing things like everyone else. The Amico isn’t just a retro console, it is a fully upgraded version of an Intellivision console for the 21st Century.
We’re talking about state of the art controllers. We’re talking about an online store where you can buy more games. We’re talking about classic Intellivision, Atari and iMagic games with updated graphics and new levels (including ToeJam and Earl!). We’re talking new games – with more than 20 at launch!
I can keep rambling, or you can watch the trailer (which also kinda rambles)…
We’ve still got a year before any of us will get our hands on an Amico, but the ears of everyone at High Score are perked up on this one. We hope it comes out as cool as Intellivision is making it look.
