The Horror! Perfect Games to Play on Halloween!

It’s Halloween! The one day of the year when no one minds kids showing up at their door and taking all their candy! The one day of the year where walking around covered in blood won’t lead to the police stopping you in the street! The one day of the year that shaving cream companies can’t wait for!

But this year, this horrible year, Halloween falls on a Wednesday. A Wednesday! We can’t all stay out late having a devilishly wonderful time when we have to be at work by 9am! What kind of evil ghoul put the greatest day of the year on a Wednesday!?

So we can’t go out and party all night, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a blast and a half! We can do the thing we all know we’d want to be doing if we were at a Halloween party – we can play video games!

But which ones? We already talked about some of the spookiest games you could play, but that doesn’t mean they’re the perfect choices for the day. Sure, those games will spook you right out of your skin, but there’s more to Halloween than that. These games will help fill the void!

Costume Quest

Set on Halloween night, Double Fine’s Costume Quest leaves the scary to other games, focusing instead on the two best things about the day; costumes and candy!

Save the world while you collect costumes and get as much candy as you can!

Blood of the Werewolf

Full disclosure – High Score members Nathaniel McClure and Derek Faraci made this game!

Werewolves! Vampires! Fishmen! Zombies! Blood of the Werewolf has all the classic monsters plus a few new ones!

Play as Selena, last of the werewolves as she spends one hellish night fighting her way through the nastiest nasties ever to save her son!

Scooby-Doo! First Frights

For generations now, the Mystery Inc. kids have been keeping kids and adults laughing with fear. Scooby and the gang have faced the best Halloween costumes time and again, and Scooby-Doo! First Frights – with its laugh track – will make you feel like you’re watching some of the best episodes of the series.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

Luigi’s Mansion is one of the most loved Nintendo games of all time. While it doesn’t come up in conversation nearly as much as the original, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is a great follow-up to the classic game. And with Luigi’s Mansion 3 coming to the Nintendo Switch next year, now’s the perfect time to catch up!

Grim Fandango

Originally made by LucasArts way back in 1998, Grim Fandango is a game that has stayed on the minds of players for decades. Remastered and released in 2015 (and is coming to Nintendo Switch next year!).

This adventure/puzzle game is endlessly hilarious with an art style that stands out from the crowd.
