Hello and Happy New Year from High Score eSports!
As we get our final scores of 2018 and press start on 2019, we want to thank every player, guest, sponsor, and partner for an amazing year. Your participation with High Score eSports helps to create the opportunities for esports and competitive gaming for players of all levels.
Our year kicked off with our very own Detroit Player Series (DPS) taking part in the Red Bull Conquest Qualifier. We held the event at the historic Garden Theater. That night, hundreds at the Garden Theater and thousands on Twitch, watched as the best fighters in the Mid-West duked it out for amazing prizes and a spot in Conquest. Special thanks for the amazing catering courtesy of Maniacis!
In March, we were center court in a kick off event at the most visited professional sports arena in the world, Little Ceasers Arena. Along with GamerSaloon.com, Detroit Sports Commission, and the Horizon League we hosted the top NBA 2K talent in the country as they competed for $10,000!
In April, DPS Season 2 came to a climatic ending with the best fighters in Michigan facing off for thousands in cash and bragging rights!
In 2018 we also became the new home of one of the longest running weekly tournaments in the country, Smashfield featuring the Michigan Super Smash Bros. community! Each and every week, these soldiers of smash have battled it out, with their numbers increasing to a point that… well, we’ll get to that in a minute.
Throughout the course of summer and fall, High Score continued to evolve its form! From physical alterations to our Ferndale facility to strategic partnerships with top organizations. Combined, High Score eSports continues its goal of being the name and location for competitive gaming of every level.
In October, we teamed up with DreadCentral.com to host a month of Fridays the Thirteenth! Each week, we played Friday the 13th: The Game, with everyone taking turns as the iconic slasher Jason Voorhees. Between screams, guests were lucky enough to walk away with a prize bag filled with a pile of great horror movies and other goodies!
We were honored to host Michigan’s pro-Halo team, the Detroit Overdrive of the Pro Battle League for the NA Championship series this December! They battled it out against teams across the country and ended up in third with a nice piece of the $25,000 prize pool. Congrats guys!
In addition to the many amazing competitive esports events, the High Score team got to travel the country to discuss and see esports events at the top venues featuring the current and up and coming esports talent and organizers. We were at Dreamhack ATL checking out HiRez Studios and the SMITE world championships as well as the grand opening of North America’s largest esports stadium in Arlington, Texas featuring the ECS Counter-Strike Championships.
Along with the many events, High Score was happy to be the destination for countless birthday parties, corporate events, and just plain old good times! Many a candle was blown out, and many a drink was had with friends, all while our guests played the best games available. By our count, you have all played over 700 hours of Rock Band alone! That’s a lot of rocking out!
Remember when we said we would come back to Super Smash Bros?
With the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch, we knew that our Thursday Smashfield nights were about to get even bigger. On our first night with the new game, High Score hosted a tournament with more than 100 entrants! To continue our support of this awesome game and community High Score has teamed with Buffalo Wild Wings, and we are proud to announce that our first 2 events at the Farmington Hills B-Dubbs have produced record turnouts. We are excited to see where this relationship takes us in 2019!
What’s coming in 2019?
- NHL tournament on center ice at the LCA
- High School and Collegiate esports tournaments and events
- Competitive gaming training and opportunities for players of all ages and levels
- High Score merch and patch rewards system
- More facilities
- And so much more (we can’t announce just yet)!
We hope you had a great 2018, and we appreciate you letting us be a part of it. Can’t wait to see you next year!
Great Games, Great People, Great Times!
