Activision Heard the Call of Duty, and Word is Their Battle Royale is Awesome

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is currently in beta, and this past weekend, a load of gamers got the chance to check out Activision’s attempt to get in on the Battle Royale trend. Word on the street is that developer Treyarch has knocked it out of the park, with some players going so far as to call Black Ops 4 a “Fortnite Killer”.

The basics of Blackout – that’s what CoD‘s Battle Royale mode is called – are not all that different from Fortnite or PUBG. You dive onto an island using a wingsuit and have to search for weapons before the fighting really starts up. At the same time, a storm is closing in, shrinking the battlefield. All very familiar.

Taking a cue from PUBG, you can mod your weapons with sights and other thingamajigs to help you take out your enemies.

Some things Treyarch has added to the format – and what is really making players excited – including working helicopters and boats. There’s also limited-time perks like “super hearing” and “enhanced melee” and most fun of all, zombies!

The zombies protect supply drops that hold high powered weapons like a ray gun.

Enough gabbing! How about two hours of actual gameplay to watch?! Here’s GameSpots’ stream of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout Mode!
